Default TV cable adjustment (tranny kickdown)

I got a replacement TV cable at a junkyard, but it has the white spacer on it for those with loose cables to make it tighter. Now My cable is very tight, hence why my tranny is wanting to stay in 1st gear. I know there are some people who put the spacer on their tv cables. Is there a way i can take it off and replace it with the regular unit (shorter unit)that snaps into the throttle bracket?

Another update...my alternator wasn't charging properly because I forgot to screw down the alt electrical connection. I had put the nuts on, but never tightened them. although as i was tightening the small nuts...i broke off the screw going into the alt. So now i have to get a new alt unless i can retap that small *** bolt.

Thanks
