Loud Squealing Sound from Air Intake when Cold
I have a 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L. When I start the engine cold (i.e. 1st time in the morning and throughout the day after sitting for a while), there is a loud high pitch squealing sounds coming from the intake, sort of like a high pressure air leak. The sound responds accordingly to the throttle. Itonly last for about 5 minutes after starting and then it goes away once the engine is warm.
It made the sound when I had the stock airbox...I recently installed the Airaid CAI, and it is still making the sound.
Any ideas on what this isand how I can fix?

My '97 does it too.. has since I bought it alittle over a year ago....only does it when the outside temp is really cold...when its fair warm out.. summer months I dont get the sound...changing my plenum soon.. maybe that will help. We'll see.
I plan too... I know theres a great write up of the how to.. its been a huge help.. I plan on taking some pics through mine.. mostly because I am doing a bit more since the intake will be off.. but I will deffinitly let you know if the whistle stops.. by the way.. mine doesnt do it in the warmer weather.. mostly when its pretty cold...Not sure why.

The plenum job is not hard at all and I recom. doing it. I get that same sound but I also have the mopar performance round air filter set up. Everything thinks Im boosted when I drive by them and my truck is making that noise, lol. Mine also goes away but that is totally normal, nothing to worry about.
Thanks all for the comments.
I honestly don't think it's a belt. DEFINATELY sounds like compressed air.
Also, this sound is different than the CIA sucking air, which I love the sound of. This whistle/squeal is about 100 times louder...Very annoying!! And...it happened even with the original factory air box, before installing the Airaid.

My 1995 Dakota had a similar sound with its open element intake when it was cold (on a cold day), but it didn't sound as bad as you make yours out to be.
As soon as it was warmed up, it quit, just like yours. Have you checked the seal between the TB and your CAI?
