whirring sound when backing off throttle (automatic)
ORIGINAL: konstan
Will pull the valve, clean it, put it back and report my findings first.

There was also a broken vacuum line in the general vicinity (not going directly to EGR, just running past it). Fixed that too.
the EGV valve did appear to be stuck. Carefully cleaned with throttle cleaner, compressed air and penetrating oil. There was a nice "protective rust layer" covering the needle-sized-hole -- it looked like there was a metal stud. I 'found' the hole using a toothpick and cleaned it as best I could.
The plunger in the valve is not stuck anymore.
The sound has not reappeared yet. Drove a total of about 30 miles since I did all this.
Good, hopefully you won't need a new one.
Even if I do eventually need a new one, it's easy to install.
For now this case may be considered closed!!!
