97 ram brake weirdness
I just had the experience of my brake and ABS lights coming on 2 days ago. I noticed a ticking noise that would initially be fast and then slow as the pedal pressure increased. Also my pedal would skip or jump a bit when depressed which also would accompany the ticking noise. I had a mechanic check it out and he told me aside from there being lots of air in the back brakes and the back brakes being badly out of adjustmnet the brakes were fine.
I'm not too sure about that though. The brakes are firm and will stop the truck fine but I am going nuts with the ticking and the pedal jump. What can I, a dodge noob do to fix or at least self diagnose the problem, thank you for your help. Pete.

Pete,
It sounds like what you experienced is the ABS'kicking in'. That 'clicking' noise, ...'funny' pedal, ...are typical when it engages. The question though, ...It's normal for it to kick in if the vehicles tires slide when braking, ...but if it's kicking in for no real reason? ...then that should be looked at.

I had it looked at like I said, and tonight on the way from work my brake light and ABS light came on again. The brakes work fine with the exception of the ticking. I've had my ABS kick in before but it is nothing like what I am experiencing now. The ticking sounds like an egg timer, very faint.
I will bring it back to the shop Monday. I am thinking the ABS sensor is shot, could that be it??

...I reread your initial post, ...it does indeed seem you need to have the ABS looked at. The mechanic that mentioned the brakes are 'fine', ...may simply be basing that on the condition of the pads/rotors, ...not accounting for any ABS interaction (which as you suspect seems to be the issue).
I had it looked at again and had the rear wheel speed ABS sensor replaced, I still have the pedal clicking and some skipping in the brakes. The lights were off when I picked it up but once again the lights (ABS and brakes) are on. What gives??
Now the lights are on again but the clicking sounds and the pedal pulsing have gone (for now anyway)
What else can I look at? Anyone??
Is the truck safe to drive as is?? Otherwise the brakes work fine.
