Default Rotella Oil in a 5.9 Gas motor

Hi everyone, just recieved my new (used) Ram 1500 and the gentleman I got it from said that I should use Rotella diesel oil in it. He said that there would be stuff all over the net about it but I guess I'm looking in the wrong places as I found very little. The truck is a 96' with the 360 gas engine and has 67k on the clock.

My question is, does anyone use diesel oil in thier gas engine? Should I switch to a syn? Do either oils life keep me from getting undernieth every 3k?

Thank you and sorry if this is redundant.

That's what I'm switching to at my next oil change. They make different ones. Just make sure you get the right one. You can look up info on their website to make sure.

Rotella is good stuff. Shouldn't be a problem.
What weight did the previous owner run? 15w40? That's a bit thick for the magnum especially in winter.

15w-40 Rotella is what I have been using for a while, works great especially keeping all the seals from leaking a lot.

I used to just run Chevron Delo 400 in the summers but last winter I left it in there and it did fine. Reason is it doesn't burn it like 10w30.

Definitely. If your winters include sub zero temps, you should probably run 5w-30 oil during the winter.

I don't know about Rotella, but synthetic would let you change the oil less often (but is a bit more expensive). I change my synthetic every 5000-6000 miles, although you are supposed to be able to go longer with some.

Rotella T 15w-40 also meets current gasoline specs; you'll have no problems. Run syntheic if you are concerned about cold weather starts or go to a 5w-40 diesel during the winter.
