Default Transmission Fluid

Hello. I have about 10 quarts of this fluid. I know it's not ATF3, but would it hurt to use it? I got them for free, so I figured it would be better to buy 12 more quarts of this, versus 22 quarts of ATF3. Thanks!

NO. I would never put that in my Ram. I've heard of several peoplecomplaining of the dexron/mercron causing them to have tranny problems. I'd stick with Mopar ATF+4 only. Atleast get a ATF+4. I'd rather spend the extra on fluid than spend a whole lot more on a new transmission. Wal-Mart sells Mopar branded fluid for $5 a quart vs the $11 a quart the dealer wants for it.

so atf+4 would be good then, even though the 46re requires atf+3?

No the 46RE takes ATF+4. I think I've read something about how it used to take +3 but Dodge has updated it to recommend ATF+4. Do a search as this thread comes up about weekly. +4 is what you want.

Wanye at APS also told me he recommends going with the Mopar ATF+4. That says something as he really knows what he is talking about.

Yeah idk. I know Dodge now calls for Mopar ATF+4 and thats what I've heard recommended quite a bit on this site and others. I figure as finicky as these trannys are I should probably put what is liked and recommended in there. Then when Wayne at APS told me he recommends it also that was the icing on the cake for me.
