Diff temp and gauge mounting
I'm thinking about putting a temp sender on my rear diff cover. Anyone done this with a cover other then the Mag-Hytec cover? Don't get me wrong, it's a sweet cover, just a lot of $$$.
Second question is, where did you put the gauge? I'm thinking about putting a two gauge panel down low on the dash (below the ashtray). I'll put my trans temp guage (currently on the stereing column) and the diff temp gauge together down there. Then on my steering column, I think i'm going to put a tach.
Here is diff gauge I want to use because it matches my current trans temp gauge:

I would put them in this 2 gauge panel:

and use these angle rings to point them slightly up and toward the driver:

I have a grab handle on the a-pillar instead. Plus, I think the gauges on the a-pillar is kinda overdone. I want them out of the way, but still visible.
I would be surprised if you see 150 Deg while towing. I've never been burned by diff oil but the covers can get quite warm. I don't think the needle on the one pictured will hardly ever move.
I can't say I've ever seen anyone with a diff temp gauge before, I think its serious over kill.
I would drill and tap the housing for the sensor. It should be pretty easy for you.

Everyone is telling me that 4.56 or 4.88 gears will generate a lot more heat. That's why I am wanting to monitor it. I was going to just drill and tap the existing cover, but i'm looking for one with extra fluid capacity.
