Converters do more than burn off the unburnt fuel.
They clean up other pollutants as well. HC, CO, NOx
With no converter and no EGR NOx (oxides of Nitrogen) would be pretty high = smog
There is a reason those things are installed but heavy duty trucks used to get a free pass because we need them powerful to do the work and pollution control can rob power.

When you are running at or near 14.7:1, there is very little emission to be cleaned up. The catalytic converter loses it's efficiency quickly with respect to it's total life quickly anyway.

Before you buy or makea simm, try wrapping the old sensor up in aluminum foil, plug it in, and tie wrap it to the frame rail. Then clear the code.

Interesting....

Oh wait, your trucks are 3/4 tons. The specs are way lower (practically non existent) in most states for 3/4 and heavier trucks
Not true completely, because mine is only a 1/2 ton model and I have no check engine light.

Ok, I understand. Luckly here in southern Tennessee we do not have to worry about emission testing, because there would be no vehicles on the road if there was.
