Default Do I need a chip reprogrammer?

Ok I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 liter engine, its stock, except for the K&N air intake system. I also has taller tires then stock, I found that when I am in overdrive and using cruise control and come to a small rise in the road it shifts out of overdrive into "D", then if the rise is more...like a small hill, it shifts into "2nd", this causes the rpm's to jump up to almost 4500, when towing a trailer its even worse and gas mileage suffers really bad. So would it be in the best interest to get a chip reprogrammer??? and which kind is the best one to get??????

You could get a Hypertec, it will let you change shift points, calibrate for larger tires, etc. It should help you out with a few of your problems that you are having.

you shouldn't tow in OD.

it's not a chip problem, it's a gearing problem.
