Horsepower low, 4wd noise, clicking sound - HELP
ORIGINAL: boaboa
I think the problem is orginating in the transmission. 2 Reasons: Not shifting properly, and the there is still a shaft spinning in the tranny when it is in neutral.
When both the transfer case and tranny are in Neutral, and I go to push it into 2H, if I do it slowly, it grinds and whizzes like metal on metal, and if I force it, it drops in with a loud clunk and the whole truck jerks (cause its slamming in on a spinning shaft).

Not sure why there is still a shaft spinning when you are in neutral. To my knowlage if everything is in neutral nothing should be spinning from transmission output shaft all the way to the diffs unless you grab it with you hand and spin it it around. but there should be noengine induced force on it.Nuetral even has the same transmission flow path as park does except park has a lock that engadges as well. So there should be no spinning shafts in neutral if there is then you have a definate issue with the tranny and should have it looked at before it craters itself. IMO
As far as you pushing into 2; you are in neutral but are you coasting down the road?
Just trying to make sure i have all the pieces to this puzzle. don't thinnk yourself an idiot. Can't know it all and to learn you have to ask questions.
