Default 5W30-10W30 Oil. Any real difference ??

My hand book says use the oil in relation to the lowest outside temp. I live in England and in the Summer temps go no higher than
38C/100F. The Winter months no lower than -10C/14F.
Both recommended oils fall within this bracket so does it really matter which I use ?
Also ,fully synthetic 10W-30 is hard to find over here(dont know why ?)so I'm thinking of going 5W30. So the question isoes it matter ?
5.9, 1500 Ram, 62,000 mls.

It doesn't really matter. I would say go with the 5w-30 because it lubricates just as well as the 10w-30 and in the colder climate it will work well. Plus you can the 5w-30 easier.

I'll go for that then. Is it worth adding any of the various additives which claim to 'clean' the engine? Normally I stay away from things like that but various posts on this site cant seem to fault using them. I dont like wasting money on things that dont work. I'll happily spend on things that do have a benefit.

Remove your dipstick, and if the oil is normally clean (no sludge on the bottom), then you don't need to use any additives. If you start getting sludge buildup, you might want to try some of the cleaner stuff you mentioned.

I didn't know Dodge Rams were sold in England!

Yeah, anything that cleans your engine wont hurt, if you have something like lucas oil in england it works well. It doesn't really clean your engine, but it helps any oil lubricate alot better.

I use the 5W-30. I live in Maine and it makes for much easier starts in the winter time. I don't use any additives but I change my oil regularly and don't get noticable buildup. Also never had any issues in the summer but I don't live in a climate that really gets over 90 degrees F.
My wife has a Ford Taurus with a 3L V6 and it only calls for 5W-30.

Dodge Rams are not sold 'officially' in the UK. All Rams are imported either privately or by specialist importers.
Dodge/Chrysler dealers are relatively new and only supply cars like the PT Cruiser,300C,Sebring, Crossfire,Voyager and Nitro.
The official dealers can supply Rams but will charge a premium price.
All the official cars are full UK spec, Right hand drive etc.
All Rams (inc mine) are Left hand driveunless converted after leaving the factory.
Mine is a 2000 and was first registered in Florida. It was inported to the UK in 2006 by the guy I bought it off.
Hope that makes sense.......

Yeah, if you can find Lucas Oil Brand, get that. Full system and injector cleaner. The next best thing would be to find any STP product. Thy are relatively cheap and work moderately well.

The only difference, I believe, between the two oils is theviscosity rating. They're the same weight, of course, but the manual tells you that the 10W is goodfrom 0-100+ deg F and the 5W is good to much lower temps... Even though the manual recommends 10W, the 5W should suit you well enough...
