Default automatic to manual trans swap HELP!!!

Im planning on doing a swap in my 96 2500 4x4 with a 360andI have a few questions. First of allI would like to know if its even a possibility to swap in a 6 speed from a cummins so I can have that extra gear? Second would I need to do anything as far as computers go so my truck runs right after swaping in a manual? 3rd of all what are your recomendations for the transmission i should use for the swap and what are the chances that if I get a 2wd trans that I can just take the tail section off the trans and just bolt up my transfer case? And 4th am I gunna need new driveshafts or anything big? Your help would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Default RE: automatic to manual trans swap HELP!!!

Never really considered going from Auto to Manual. Years ago I had a 75 Chevy Monza with a 5 speed that I kept burning the clutch out of. After my dad seriously acusing me of bad driving habits (partly correct) we decided to put in an automatic. It was not until after we had the Turbo 350 bought and ready to install that we found an adjustment on the top right of the bellhousing that was adjusted all the way in that was causing the clutches to burn out extremely fast.

Anyway we put the 350 in and with the exception of some bad decisions in what kind of tubing to use to route the transmission fluid to the radiator it went pretty smooth.

We had to remove the old clutch pedal so you will have the inverse...you will need to intall a new clutch pedal and coming from an auto to a stick you will probably need the entire brake and clutch pedal setup out of a stick truck. You will also need a new radiator for a manual trans instead of the automatic with the cooling lines for the transmission fluid.

Not to mention the issues of cutting the floor pans to add the shifter.

I am all about fun projects, but this one just does not sound like fun to me :-)
