Default Crank Driven Fan to Electric Fan Conversion

Has anyone done it? I just got my first dodge (1998 ram sport 318ci)

I plan on using it to drag race this season and my friend who has a Dakota told me about replacing the crank fan with an electric one to get a decent amount of power. How can i do this and what electric fan do i need to get to do it?

Thanks,
Chris

Im not all too familiar with the swap, all im curious about is whether or not you need a new type of water pump. Then again.....does anyone know if the fan clutch just unbolts and can be taken off?

Just take the old fan, clutch, and shroud out and replace with electrics. Not that hard, gains you back a little power, about the amount that might get sucked up by running the Air Conditioner. It gives you lots of engine bay room back.

No need for a new water pump.

Lots of guys with r/c s/b use the Flexalite Black Magic fans, Ive got their 210B's on mine cause of the color. Some will get them from the wreckers from Ford midsize cars as well. Adds a bit of hp off the line mainly. Dont expect a lot.

Link below lists various bolt ons I added and how they affected my 5.9s 1/4m ets if you need some other ideas.

Few other pages here that maybe of interest. Track prep for my Ram, weight reduction etc etc.

Cleans up under the hood as mentioned so you can clutter it up with better things

After you do this, you can start to worry that your waterpump impeller is costing you RPM at high speeds. You therefore have to go electric there too. I have heard if you live in colder climates, you can take you fan off for 3-4 months.
