KNOCKING SOUND INSIDE OILPAN
Greetings all, I recently bought a Neon 4 banger to save gas and so my truck has been parked for a few days. This weekend when I went to start it as it was idling there was a knocking sound coming from underneath. I crawled under to locate it and narrowed it down to the area where the tranny bellhousing connects to the engine, or inside the oilpan. The knock went away when I revved the engine but returned. After a few more minutes the noise went away and has not resurfaced. My buddy says it was probably a "CARBON KNOCK" or damaged flywheel. Any suggestions???????????????
It is possible thatthe transmission fluid "check valve" has been removed. If so the fluid would have drained from your torque converter and needed time to re-fill after starting the car. Some owners and shops remove this valve because it can go bad and starve your tranny of fluid, causing it to burn up. By removing it though, the fluid is allowed to drain from the torque converter.
Not sure how you can look under the vehicle to see this though. Hopefully somebody else htat has removed theirs can chime in with some info for you.

If the clutch cable has been replaced and the little end that breaks off was not retrived from the bell housing.. it will bang around in the bell housing.. the end that breaks off the old cable...
The tranny has been rebuilt a few times so this is poss. And it has a total of 9 inches on the lift with 35's on 17" wheels. So yeah I crawl under real easy like.
If this is the case are there any other telltale signs to make sure? Could I remove the dust cover and look at the flywheel or will I have to drop the entire tranny?

You are a mind reader my friend I was just going to ask if they are 1 in the same. Also how much do they run? And this is probably a stupid question but in order to change it I would have to drop the traany and transfer case correct?
