Default P1740 Opinon - Post TSB Question

OK, I popped the code today and want opinons prior to going to the mechanic.

I have read the TSB which suggest the selonoid or torque converter. I suspect mine is the later as I had highway and hill issues today. Highway issues included 65MPH with O/D on and RPM's at 2100.For8 yearsI experience 1700 with my setup. I have noticed increased RPM's at various highway speeds for a few months- all about 300-400k spikes.

My hill problems inluded RPM spikes and what I suspect was slippage and bucking, then it would catch. Over the past few months I have noticed a reving or quick increase of RPM prior to the trany shifting gears upon acceleration 1/2-3/4 throttle.

My questions for the forum is do you think this is the TC or could it be the selonoid? I ask as I have been planing Dr. Eveil when the transmission needed replacement. Obviously I don't want to flip $2400 if the selonoid is the cause. Additionally, if a TC will fix the problem, I would like to know as it is much cheaper than the new tranny, but lthis eads me to this question: if I swap the TC, what other "items" within the tranny can fail next? Bands, clutches, etc? - I just don't know much about trannys. I don't want to worry about them failing next.

I am the original owner (2001) and have performed all maintenance at or before the recomended interval. The truck has 104k and I plan to drive it until the body rots away even if a tranny and engine referb are required.

This vehical has been towing a 4k trailer since day one but has never been beaten on.

Any thoughs would be helpful. I am mostly after opinions surrounding what else can go wrong in an older tranny after a new TC is dropped in. Thanks in advance.
