I've got a 99 dodge ram 4X4 with the 5.2 and about 250,000 miles on it. I've located a 5.9 out of a 98 1500 ram 4x4 sport with half the miles. What's the pros and cons and will they swap?

Same block but not the same PCM. If you rebuild the 5.9 into a 5.2 then I don't see any issues; however, they won't directly swap.

 

Can you get the PCM from the 5.9 engine too? If so, you're golden.

 

Thanx for fast response. I can get anything i need off the 98 - it was rear ended! Do i need the harness also? All the acc. are the same - alternator, PS pump, A/C comp. Only difference I saw was the 98 had ABS and mine doesn't

Take everything you can. It's always handy to have spares on-hand for future needs or trades.

 

Should swap right in. Make sure you keep the original flex plate and balancer on the 5.9
You might need to swap a few sensors but only if the connectors are different.
I haven't tried it but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.2 PCM runs the 5.9 just fine.
