ORIGINAL: Chopper1

This is where a torque wrench is a handy tool. I may be ****, but after any of my wheels have been off I carry a torque wrench around for a fewhundred milesand re-check them around 50-100 intervals.
Like BIGRED97 I had mine clicking at 30 MPH just after getting off the interstate running around 75. Pulled off and could tighten by hand. Had the wheels rotated and balanced 150 miles before and did not check the torque yet. Know of three others that had their wheel come off.
The exact same thign happened to me. EVERY WHEEL was hand tight. And a couple nuts fell off in my hand. It scared the crap out of me. The whole truck was shaking. i was doing 80 mph down the freeway. Thank god I got off in time to tighten them.

Anyway, glad your okay. Locking nuts for sure.

Maybe im missing it..., but why are "lock nuts" in his future. Four people suggested lock nuts... but why? Im sure PA probably suggestedlock nuts is so no one steals your wheels. But im not sure everyone else who followed in his path ment the same thing. Lock nutsdon't prevent the wheel comming back off in the same situationhe had. It's just a theft deturant. I agree with chopper1 that a torque wrench is a great tool. Minerarely leaves the back of my truck. Properly torqued 5 regular lugnuts = 4 properly torqued lugnuts + 1properly torqued lock nut. There is no difference.
