factory amp wire was grounded blew two radios
I was hooking up my friends radio. He had a shop hook it up, bit it only played through the front door speakers and the subs. I took the radio out and saw the blue wire from the harness was not hooked up.
I hooked it up, put the radio back in and then nothing. Took radio out hooked it directly to a 12 volt source and still nothing. Figured something went wrong with radio. Got another radio, checked it using only red, yellow and black wires; it came right on. Hook it up and put the dash back on, fully expecting it to turn right on. Nope.
Pull out that radio hook up only yellow, red and black wires, nothing, hooked radio directly to battery (its fused :-) still nothing.
So one was a Alpine cda-7897 and a sony xplod cdx-5700. Neither is working now. I visually checked my fuses and checked continuity between them. All the fuses are good. Radio gets 12 volts and puts it out through blue and blue/white wires. Took Sony completly apart, I am getting power all over the circut board, but still I get not a single LED. It is strange that both radios did the exact same thing. Like an idiot I didn't check the wire to see why the shop didn't hook it up. I really should have check continuity to ground first, not after I lost two radios.
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SITUATION? I really don't know what to do. Everyone keeps telling me to check my fuses or my ground, but belive me I am way past that.
Worst yet is that it isn't even my truck, I was doing a favor, and there is no way I can prove I didn't burn up the radio through my own negligence. Although the radio has no burnt componets, no ozone smell and it is still putting out 12+ to the power leads (blue/white wire).
More of a vent than anything, just really need help, but have no idea if I can be helped.

If it has one of the universal radio plug in things that aftermarket radio's need to plug into the stock harness try taking it out and re wiring it.If that doesnt work Get a Multi meter and test the red and yellow wires to see if they are giving off power if not may have blown a fuse some were. Also does the truck have a stock amp in it from the factory?
