Default scoop set up

Alright, so IndyRamMan and i have been Pming eachother about how to effectively set up our hoodscoops and to minimalize problems with water. We wish to somehow jack up the air filter to have it directly in the scoop. Or to have a hole underneath the scoop and a connection directly to the air filter. Air filter being a set up like a 14x3. Requesting others knowledge and input. Im sure Indy will postto clarify what ivestate and add on to this post. Weve both got ideas to make a cone system to the filter, but as for jackin the filter up, were pretty much stumped (without using tb spacers, both agree on staying away from those.) Thanks for help.

You could build an airbox.. sorta like what you would do with a cowl set up. Attach it to the hood where the air comes in put a hole to fit the tb in. Maybe something stainless or powdercoated.. Just make sure there is someway to keep rain out.

Good idea, i think thats what Indy was thinking of, but question i still have though is how do you drain water without effecting that airflow.

Im acually working on a prototype now.. but in the front with the deflector is have the pan on a slight angle downward with a 1/2 in whole for water to drain.. with my measurements the water would come out jus in front of the fan.

What about a vacuum operated scoop like you find on some of the old Chevy`s (I know that`s a sin). The scoop would only pop up when you really get on it. Just a thought.........

when you make your ram air hood cant you just make a plate that will seal the scoop so you can drive in the rain? just a thought. or do you want the air from the scoop to go only to the intake? would it be better to have it open so you kinda cool off the rest of the engine also, while getting extra air thrown on top of the 14x3?

I would think you could plumb your "box" with a electric solenoid valve or something similar so that you could flip a switch to open the drain - then turn it off when you are done. At least I think that is what they are called... if you search the net for "spud guns" you'll find some designs that use an electrically controlled valve too. Shouldn't cost too much...

Check out the air grabber scoops from the Road Runners and the 73-81 Trans Am scoops. Both have a seperate way to drain and let air in.

If you just have the breather filter stacked to stick up and a shield across the front it would probably do OK..

The old muscle cars did have a wire that ran into the hood scoop to open it up. Sort of like an exhaust cut out today.
