transmission belts
I have a 2000 offroad 4x4 extendacab with the 46re tranny and i dont know to much about the tranny but i hear you guys talk about changing to the atf-3 and atf-4 fluids and then adjust the belts.......ok how do you do this and why would you do this????Is the atf-3and4 the best to put in it or not????
Don't forget to grease the muffler bearings............just kidding. They talk about adjusting the bands, not the belts. As far as the atf fluid, I would stick with what your owners manual states.
Atf+3 or +4 will be fine for your transmission. As far as adjusting the bands...there's two bands, one is external and one is internal. If I remember correctly, both get torqued to 75 in.lbs., then backed off two turns, but check a service manual to be sure (I'm sure someone else will post and correct my memory too
).
