Default Italian Tune up + mystery

After I left school headed for the mechanic, I took a right on red and some Yo-Yo comes barreling around the curve to the entrance ramp of 44. So, I stomped it and left it on the floor. The transmission shifted flawlessly! The tach nearly hit 5K and the truck felt like it was shot out of a cannon. I let off about 85mph do to traffic. Then I was like What? I thought this thing was dying. You know what I did next??? stomped that mother again. Flawless. Again, up and held it up to 96mph. Flawless fun shifts. I did it about 4 of these.

Now the mystery. No more jumping tach, holds the OD gear no matter the speed, perfect shifting. I have no idea what is going on. All the way to work this morning it held 55 in OD like the tach needle was painted on. I had not had the truck over 70 in about a year, not near 80 in two, near 100 in like 5.

I am at a total loss, perhaps someone can educate me. Perhaps it is just a short honeymoon. BTW when you get on these 360there is a marked increase in gas usage. In case any of you were wondering. Also the Super 44 sound great!

Thanks Yo-Yo in ricer that couldn't keep up!

In old school language what you did was called "Blowing the cobwebs out of it".

Just a guess here, but possibly you had some gunk partially plugging passages in your tranny and the tranny was sending mixed signals to the PCM which was causing the RPM's to fluctuate. When you "blew her out", the normal flow returned and the correct info is now getting to the PCM.

Whatever the reason, glad to hear it sounds like your problem might be solved.

Oh yea, these 360's do drink a lot more when you're playing with them. just behaving myself when driving and going 62 instead of 68 increased my MPG by +2.

I have now gone 80 miles with no trouble. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I first saw the Italian Tune up on a VW Turbo Diesel website. As it turns out, you have to do this to a VW diesel to keep it in good running order. BTW after reading up on VW's I was was turned off. It seems you give the saved money right back to the dealer.

Well I'm youngand wreckless and do the "Italian tune-up" quite frequentlyto my 1998 ram... my 360 runs great and soundseven better. It was my grandpa's until he gave it to me back in February when he got his 2008 and he babied the '98. It has about 82K on it now and I've put only about 1.5K on it. The thing gobbles gas like none other at the top end but boy is she fast...
