Default MSD Tach adaptor, diode or no?

I was getting the soft code for P0351 - the coil code the MSD 6A box throws.
I bought the MSD Tach adaptor harness(p/n 8910) from Summit. The instructions say some vehicles need the included diode harness wired inline, some don't.
I can't find anybody on this forum or bionicdodge that has posted whether or not to use the inline diode.
So does anybody know?

I have a oem tach so don't really need a gauge, but, with the logging software that I use, I just wired it straight from the comm box to the tach output on the 6 box. I suppose it's whatever that is doing the reading (i.e. tach, laptop, datalogger, etc.) that will determine whether or not a diode is required.
