Default Brake "problems"

Alright, didnt wanna write one of these posts, but here it goes.

Trucks brakes have been actin funny, kinda like they have air in the lines. most of the time they are very firm and dont have a problem, and sometimes they go 3/4 to the floor, but still stop. Also my front right tire is not centered, its on an angle.

so i take the truck to the shop. GOOD NEWS. They tell me i have 2200 dollars worth the damage, they dont see how i was stopping. the rotors are bad, no pads on the front, no shoes on the back. i talk to the guy i bought the truck from and he had all the brakes redone 3 years ago, $1000.

they also said the tire was leanin like that because my hub bearings were gone. "when we took the tire off, those bearings were gone"

what do yall think?

now im not familiar with drums, but the front rotors should just be 100ish bucks, you can pick up duralast pads from autozone for 30-35 bucks, lifetime replacement. if you havent put the rotors on a lathe since you bought the truck then yeah id imagine they are messed up, you ought to take it to firestone and ask for them to turn the rotors, hopefully they can just cut em down some, if not autopart stores delivers to them within 30 minutes so they can get you your rotors in no time. and hell if youre gonna pay that much and if most of it is rear damage you might as well put a 3rd gen 2500 axle on so you can get dual piston calipers instead...

rockauto.com

Start shopping around, check ebay, the parts pages here, pavementsucks, pirate, etc. Somebody's gotta have stock rotors sitting around that they've upgraded. If you've got time, you can save a boat load.

If the wheel bearing are sealed like the 1500 series, then your price is going to go up. Screw $2200, get the boys and the brews together and "git 'r dun" for around $1000.
