Default Headers w/out Custom Tuning

I have the truck in my sig and I have the following "mods":

HPP3
180 t-stat
Gibson cat-back
MSD 8.5mm wires
Accel coil

My long tubes and y-pipe arrived today and I am anxious to install them. However, I need to know from you guys if it is okay to install them and use the truck without a custom tune for them for a while. Will they make the truck run too rich or lean without a tune?

No... Not at all. The exhaust side wont make the truck run rich, unless you dont hook back up the O2 sensors...

Cool, so a tune isn't vital but it is recommended to get the most out of them? I'll be getting a tune within a month (hopefully, Marty @ KRC hasn't responded yet) with the SCT tuner so that will let me get rid of the HPP3.

You don't need a pcm flash for headers or any exhaust work. It's headers its not like your doing a cam or some engine mod that you are going to see 50hp from.

It will lean you out a bit, but only at wot. Pcm will adapt everywhere else. While the pcm learns you may perceive a loss of low end torque, but it will come back and then some. I wouldn't think it would lean you out enough at wot to do any damage. I'm don't know what the fuel maps in the pp3 tuning are like though. I know stock programming puts plenty of gas in there at wot. Probably a warranty thing.

I have LT headers and a CAI & Superchips. They leaned me out quite a bit, not quite to CEL range, but still pretty lean. On Mary's advice at KRC (I live three miles from there) I added a 180* thermostat which richens you at bit. Brought me to just a hair of stock spec. Since I see you have the cooler t-stat, I'd think you'd be just fine...

Cool, thanks guys. I'll be getting the SCT tuning from KRC pretty soon so this won't be a very long term thing. Other than the headers and what is in my sig, my only near future plans are a 52mm TB and a M1 intake. I want to do heads/cam too but that will probably be 6+ months away.
