Default Fan assembly !?!

I can't get the water pump and the fan seperated. I went and got a fan clutch kit, but it excludes the 5.9L engine. Weird, how it listed ford's 5.0, chevy's 5.7 and even chrysler 5.2, but it doesn't do anything for the 5.9L. there are no bolts for the big scisor thing to catch onto.

How the hell do you seperate these two? I just pulled it all off the block at once. I need to get those two seperated and then on to the harmonic balancer. I don't have an air gun so we'll see what I can do.

LOL!! u know ,, this is the same exact problem I had!!, its a HUGE pain in the ****!!.. I ended up jabbing a wrench in the back of teh water pump pully up and using a giant monkey wrench and that seemed to work, but sicne you took it off the block already, it might be harder, Maybe you can clamp the water pump pully to a vice and use a monkey wrench .. counter clockwise looking at the front.. its a PITA I know, it delayed me 2 weeks with trying to replace the water pump because of that. heh I wish you the best of luck.. if you cant take it off, might be time for eitehr a new fan clutch(60 buxish) or electric fan, which will be one of my projects in the future :-)

good luck manm, I feel yer pain!

The pulley is pressed on the pump. You need a very large adjustable wrench and a 32 or 36 mm wrench. This works better with two people. Hold the water pulley with adjustable but remove the belt first or you will mess it up. I had to do this when I installed electric fans. I then asked the dealer the best way to do it. They do it this way also.

Try usinga rubber strap wrench around the pulley, and a fan wrench on the nut.

I tried the strap wrench, IDK if the one I bought was crappy but I couldnt grip the water pump because it was too smooth around the pulley. I jammed two screw drivers, banged, tugged and tugged. Wasted a good hour on it and NOTHING. Gr. I'd like to go with a new fan cluth cause my fan is crappy lookin, but I've gone over budget on this thing as it is, and I'm goin back to NAPA in the morning to get a new thermostat housing.

I guess so. I wish I had my digital working, so I could post a pic. It's right next to it, but it does have a bolt to the fan clutch. This is all a learning expierence for me, sorry I can't get all the names right, lol. Least I'm tryin though.

Take the whole assembly off, throw it in the trash.

Get a new waterpump without the fan mount on the front, and get an electric fan setup. You'll thank yourself.

Haha Partschaser. Well I'll do that the next time around I suppose. I took it to a guy and he stuck it in a vise and had it off in 30 seconds. It was stuck on there pretty tight, so IDK what that "easy" talk was about. five bucks and saved some hassle while makin a new friend was worth it. Now, I'm off to find a compressor and impact.

This is exactly what I did as well. I completely screwed mine up trying to separate them when I changed my pump. Luckily I already had an electric fan and most of the extras, so I threw the original crap away!
