Several Stupid Questions
Just bought a 2000 Ram 1500 Laramie SLT 5.9 with a 4" lift and 35's
I hate it when people don't tell you what they paid for a vehicle!
I paid $7,999!? Deal or no deal?
The truck came with NOTHING! No owners manual, nothing.
What is the difference between:
1500
2500
3500
What's included in the:
Sport
SLT
Laramie
The wheels are 15", is that the stock size?
More later
Thank you

1500 - 1/2 ton
2500 - 3/4 ton
3500 - 1 ton
It supposed to be a reflection of the payload capacity, if I am correct. However in todays trucks, all it tells you is how stiff the suspension is and how much it can haul, roughly and tow roughly. the 3/4 ton sits higher than a half ton, and a 1 ton generally sits higher than a 3/4 ton. 1 tons also come with duel rear wheels for better payload capacity, and better towing ability.
Sport, SLT, and Laramie are all packages.
Sport Is mostly an appearance package, with body colored bumpers, and grill. The fog lights are on the outside of the bumper instead of towards the inside. It also sits slightly higher, and came with 17" wheels in at least a few of the years if not all.
SLT and Laramie I'm not really sure about but someone else can probably help. I also have an SLT Laramie.

The difference between SLT and SLT Laramie used to be that they were the two high end packages. SLT was good, SLT Laramie was better, as far as number of options. They started to combine the two for the later model years, sort of... I'm not sure exactly the differences in the earlier model years. If you had the "Laramie badge" option with the SLT package, you had a SLT Laramie.
In 2001, they came up with "SLT" and "SLT Plus" packages, both of which came with "SLT Laramie" badges.
I wasn't aware that the Sport was any higher than the regular Dodge unless you also had the "Off Road" package, although the 17" wheels would make it sit slightly higher. Learn something new every day I guess.

The Offroad edition gives you about 1"-1.5" of lift over stock it has the 17" wheels, 4.10 gears, a trussed D44 up front(non offroads have non trussed D44's), tow hooks( I think this was part of that package), and different shocks.
Stock wheel size is 16"
So someone did you a favor by grinding down your calipers enough to fit 15" wheels. Tires are fairly less expensive for 15" wheels, and there's a better selection of mud tires in the 15" wheel size.

Have you got a pic of your front axle showing the trussed up area?
I don't remember seeing that before.
