Default Torque converter clutch solenoid

[X(]My 2001 Ram was throwing the P1740 "TCC or O/D SOLENOID PERF". Can anyone tell mewherethis is? I know it's in the tranny but where? I can't find it on the web anywhere. I would love to find a schematic of the transmission for the 5.2 2wd I can't determine exactly which tranny I have but the part number ends with 43AA. After driving a while and ignoring the CEL (P1740) I was driving and nothing, just seemed like it was in neutral. Once I got stopped the truck died, it would start but died once placed in gear. After a half hour it drove fine but problem reoccured once I got on the road. Transmission doesn't leak although there is a hint of fluid around the pan seal. If I changed the Torque converter would this fix the TCC? or is it elsewhere in the transmission. I have had the truck for a year and I love it (until then) Trans shop wants 1700.00 (of course so do I) I want to fix it myself is this possible? I'm no transmission mech but if I have a manual I'll try anything I can pull it without problem. I've just never messed with an automatic trns I've pulled several manual ones. HELP I need my truck. I appreciate any and all help. It sounds like members here can fix anything.

hi my friend it seems we are in the same boat with the p1740 code.
you should try doing a search for p1740 and tcc or o/d solenoid. you will find a lot of info. i have come to the conclusion that i need to replace the o/d solenoid, but i am going to replace the tcc at the same time because it is on the same bracket and could also be bad.I do not have the engine stalling symptom you may won't to have your Torque converter stall tested at a trans shop to rule that out.

i plan on replacing the solenoids tomorrow i will post back with the results.

I can't find anywhere that tells me where the tcc is located. You say they are on the same bracket? where are they? I'm dying to find out. Thanks for the reply but please follow up.

i suggest you drop the tranny pan and look for any large metal pieces. I had to rebuild my transmission cause it was throwing off the same code.

Your selonoid is throwing off the p1740 code because you torqe converter is shot. In rare cases the solenoid can go bad and throw the code but you have already lost yuor tc. Replacing the tc will solve the problem but any reputable mechanic or ntrany shop will only replace it with a tranny rebuild because of the contamination and or pieces in the tranny

If the torque converter was shot wouldn't this prevent the truck from engaging into any gear? When the tranny cools down it will drive. I drove it to get it home (when it stalled on me) for about 20 miles but I kept it slow and kept it in low gear and would speed up and coast then speed up and coast for the 20 miles. Took a while but I got it home. Like I said I am not transmission Tech so correct me if i'm wrong but I was under the impression a bad TC would prevent the transmission from shifting at all. I definately appreciate all help.
