ENGINE COMPUTER
It also depends on your engine size. The computers were different for different engines.
I know for 100% that a computer out of a 1994 or 1995 Ram will not work for you, as those were OBD I systems.

If you are wondering about the computer because, according to your 46RE/46RH thread where you put a 46RH in place of your 46RH, the very sad news is that no Dodge Ram had OBDII and a 46RH (also, no Dodge Ram had OBDI and a 46RE)
The 46RE transmission was introduced in 1996. OBDII was introduced in 1996 as well.
The 46RH was used up to, and including, 1995. OBDI was used up to, and including, 1995.
Simply put, the 46RH is not compatible with your current engine computer. Likewise, an older computer that is compatible with the 46RH is not compatible with any of the wiring of the computer. At the very least, the whole connector for the PCM would have to be redone. (I don't know what year they went to the "digital" dash, where you have the digital odometer and all that crazy stuff, but if thats how the 1997 Ram is, best of luck to ya!)
