Default Engine transmission swap

Hi could someone give me some info please?
I have a 1999 dodge ram with 318 magnum, standard shift.
The motor is blown up in this truck.
I also have a 1998 dodge ram with 318 magnum, auto.
I want to put the motor and auto transmission out of the 1998 into the 1999,
My mechanic says no problem just money! The owner of a four wheel drive specialist business says I may not want to try that, because electronics from auto to standard shift are different and may not work.
Could someone please verify this!
Sorry about long post.
Thanks BM

Listen to him and swap the motors to get a running truck. Just my .02 after selling used car parts for a while. The Dodges are by far the worst when it comes to compatability with their electronics, the newere they are the worse they are.

To do the swap you will need to swap the electronics. And the foot pedals.

Yup you need a new PCM from a same year same motor auto. You also need a bunch of other parts for the swap that in the end will give you a way less reliable transmission than you started with? Why in the world would you want to do that? I would love to have had a 5 speed swapped into mine but after looking into it I decided to go with the APS.

hum at least he is not thinking about putting a 3rd or 4th generation transmission and motor in a 2001 truck. Trying to come up with a plan to do it but still to many little hang ups. But its coming.
