re learning sensors
Ive been having an problem ever since i cleand my throttle body a couple days ago. I took off all the sensors cleand them as best i could and put di- electric grease on the connectors. After i got everything back together the truck would stall at low idle. I figured it was the IAC so i replaced it. Now it just stumbles in reverse after a cold start. Idle in park after a cold start is whats really annoying me. The rpm's jump from 1000 to 1800 over and over. It only does this on a cold start thought. Once it heats up it runs alot better. Ive disconnected the battery so id relearn the sensor. Does it just take a while for the PCM to compleatly learn the proper settings? Thanks for any help.
Your idle should not bounce. I'd say you got another bad IAC. Resetting the computer is the correct procedure. You may want to let the truck idle for a few minutes without tapping the gas to relearn the new IAC.
Make sure you do not play with the plunger at all when you replace the IAC. Also make sure you have the little rubber O ring around the IAC when you reinstall it.
You may want to reset the idle air counts as well. Here's a link:

I couldn't fit my thumb down the TB so I used a wide flathead screwdriver and wrapped a lot of electrical tape around it shoved it down the hole to block it off. When I pulled back on the screwdriver the first time to wedge it in there tight, the idle died, so I figured I blocked it off well enough. I used a #25 torx screwdriver to adjust the idle wgile my assistant watched the rpms, (much easier than a socket torx set, this is the only torx screwdriver I own and has been a great investmaent for all parts on the TB, and panels insidethe truck.)
You can do it by yourself but it's a bit harder. Just slowly turn the plate adjustment screw in the tb until you first hear the rpm's jump up, and then they'll settle back down. That's where it should be.

It seems to be doing better today. I have a friend with a scan tool. That link says you can set the step count on the IAC with one. Do you have any expericne doing it that way? Im thinking it might just needed a couple cold starts to figure out the right count. Thanks for the advice
