Default programer ratings

im thinkin about investing in a power programer and was wondering what yall use and what seems to be the best. also ive been reading that they set shifting points and firmness, i was wondering if this could fix my trans problem. my trans has been acting up since i bought the truck it seems to shift alright but slips when i give it alot of gas usually just goin into second then will shift into third pretty quick. ive changed the filter and saw no shavings and had a mechanic check it out and couldnt think of what was wrong except my cat might be clogged and im thinkin that maybe my pump is goin as it seems to have leak back when it sits for a while even after i changed the check valve. thanks

Default RE: programer ratings

I am thinking of getting one as well as soon as I have a little $$$ to spare, and I've heard and read that the SCT tuner is the best, but one of the most expensive. About $600, although they don't charge for minor changes to the programs. Saves your stock settings, and can be equipped with three tunes for you to program your truck with, at will: Economy, Towing, and Performance.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the only shift the computer controls is the 3rd to 4th (OD) shift. The rest is controlled by the cable on the passenger side of your TB (NOT the throttle cable, the other one, exact name slips my mind at the moment). I would look around the site, use the search function... many people with slipping transmissions in these trucks. Some found cheap, simple solutions; others needed rebuilds or new transmissions.

Clogged cats are also a problem, depending usually on how many miles you have on the truck. You can either gut it, or go the legal route and buy a high-flow model. Most here go for the Magnaflows if you want a high-flow.

Others here on the forum can answer the transmission question more exactly than I can. I'd wait for their opinions.
