Pics with fifth wheel attached
I've mentioned a lot about pulling my 28 foot fifth wheel but have never posted any pics of the camper and truck together. So here are a couple I took this weekend. I have the hellwig LP-35's on the rear and they are set at the minimal level of support that I can set them at. I also do not have a front leveler kit installed and after seeing these pics I believe that I will not be installing one.
She looks to be pretty level to me.

My trailer is one of the 1/2 ton models. It is licensed at 9000 pound, but dry weight is 7800. High winds and steep grades give me some issues, otherwise she pulls like a dream. Once I upgrade from 3.55 to 4.10 gears it'll pull even better.
If you want a fifth wheel for your 1500 you need to keep it below the 9000 pound weight. If your truck is pretty much stock, I'd stay even lower than that, maybe around 7000 lb loaded weight. My Ram's been upgraded a lot so power wise I've no issues. I drive about 60 - 62 on the interstate and it's a comfortable ride.

I have a few upgrades, like a jet chip, headers, electric fan, demon coil, cap and wires. When I bought the truck it didn't have a cat on it so the exhaust is pretty wide open. Can't remember what kind of muffler but my son had it put on and it's spposed to be a high flow type. So far no problems with the tranny either with about 69K on it. It pulled the travel trailerlast yea before the upgrades without any trouble.
thats a nice TT , these days they make em so lite its unreal plus the room they have , ive seen some 2500 pull some huge TT , then you gotta becareful with the height . 13'6" max..

If you are gonna be pulling or hauling heavier loads there is one thing that is a must. Install as large of a transmission fluid cooler as you can fit. These Dodge trannies hate heat. I actually am running two coolers and have the extra-deep (4 extra quart) cast aluminum tranny pan to keep my tranny cool. I may upgrade to a totally separate cooler with fan combination to positively ensure my tranny has no heat issues.
I've been thinking about going to a bigger cooler. Seems like the oem cooler is a bit small. Can't really see it but if I can get my hand between the radiator an AC cooler I can just feel anotherthin cooler.
The factory placement for the cooler is in the location that you mention. Optimal transmission cooling occurs with the cooler in front of the radiator. Next best is the location it is in, and worst location is behind the A/C coils.
There are other coolers out there that have fans built onto them so location is not an issue, but for a standard style cooler place it in front of the radiator for best cooling results.
