Default Engine Trouble

Hi All I have a problem I pulled my oil pan to change the oil pump and replace it but found the bottom full of copper shavings so I have decided to replace the engine with a used one until I can rebuild the origanal. I need to know if I can use one from a 94 Dakota I know that there will be somethings to change over but I foung a pretty good deal on the engine.

Thanks for all the help!

Yes, that motor will change over. I think the add says its a 96..not a 94....I'd love to know what the shavings were... rod or crank bearings?

Thank You

Very Much

I will post here as soon as I can pull it apart I'm praying that it will keep getting me to and from work until this engine arrives. I have some time off at the end of the month so I will swap out the engine then and start my rebuild. By then I should have had time to put pictures up here.

Use the new short block and heads and re-attach all of your original bolt-ons if your concerned about the EGR valve.

You could buy a used 360 from Craigslist http://montana.craigslist.org/pts/652076273.htmlfor $200 if it's a Magnum motor and do the same thing. It's only $200 and already in Montana. It should bolt right up in your truck.

Thanks again guy's

I (the geek of the family) didn't even think to look at craigs list. But that is a 360 and 400 miles away one way. The engine on Ebay I can have compression tested before it is shipped. I may still give that a try I was thinking of going with a larger engine but this truck is for the wife. When it's very depenable (not that it has left me stranded yet). I think i will stick with the ebay or I may call this other guy in WY that is much closer. I do not have an EGR which really blows me away since I got this truck in CA.

I really want to thank you all again you all are great for those of us on the fence and need to check our facts.

Based on the mileage you stated from Ravalli, I am guessing that you are somewhere near Billings. I did a search on www.car-parts.com and found several other 318's but most are in the Helena and Missoula areas.

However, there is a 360 available right in Billings:

1994
Engine
Dodge Truck 1500
5.9L (8-360, VIN 'Z')-145K 130-140K-145K
145,000
A
TD13
$450
Dietz Auto and Truck Salvage USA-MT(Billings) Request_Quote 1-800-573-4389 Request_Insurance_Quote

Might be the cheapest way of doing it. All you need is the 360 flexplate and crankshaft damper (Which you can have included in the engine purchase) and it's a direct swap. The engine will run on the 318 computer, but you can also pick up a 360 computer for your 96 from these guys and have it shipped:

1996
Engine Computer
Dodge Truck 1500 Series
WHITE,SLT,5.9,AT,4x4
B
P70825
$100

Thank you very much once again TurkeyHunter

That never fails I need to refine my search methods I called all the local junk yards including Dietz (they are a block away) on Monday and got nothing but sorry we can try to find one for you. I just wanted to find my own after hearing that. Then the wife call me this morning to inform me that my engine was on it's way. The company on ebay had called and said that the engine would work and like a good girl (I could kill her sometimes) she sucked it up. We hadn't talked so she thought that was the best chance. At least the engine will only cost me $550 with shipping and she will never get a 360.

At least the wife was trying to be helpful. Mine only knows that the engine is supposed to be under the hood and you put gas in where the little door is. Don't be to ohard on her and have fun swapping htem out.
