i have a 97 dodge ram with the 5.9l and auto tranny. i take really good care of the transmission and service it yearly but the other day i was on the freeway in OD and went to shift lanes and it attempeted to shift down but seems like it went into neut. and was attempting to go into gear but seems to be just slipping. So i dropped it down into sec and it worked fine the into drive and it was normal. so i pulled of the road and check the fluid and it was full and clean and didnt smell burnt. so i got back on the road agian and not to much longer at did about the same thing but this time from 2nd to 3rd. so i decided to take her home and didnt have another problem the whole way home. it seems to do it every once in a while. any help?

How many miles? Could be the bands are worn. Oh, make sure you don't have too much tranny fluid. That'll do it too. If you just had it serviced or topped off or something, it could have too much.

 

119,ooomiles and know havnt touched the tranny for about a year now. shifts fine every other time except when it does this randomly.
