Default 96 Ram 1500 shift question!

I have a 96 ram 1500 and when I go from either park to reverse, park to drive or reverse to drive, it kinda revs freely for a split second and then enages and lunges foward or backward if I am in reverse. Is this a problem or is it normal?

Also, the truck stalls sometimes too. Usually in reverse but it did it today from park to drive. It stalls so quietly I cant even hear it die. It usually happens when I am in reverse for like 2-3 seconds. Is it the IAC valve? Thanks.

One thing comes to mind that the trans is starving , fluid level good ? fluid looks good ? when was the last time the trans filter was replaced ? start with the basics .. IAC sensor is behind the TB will not cause this issue , only issue it will cause is high idle , CEL , sometimes stall ...

I just changed the trans fluid and filter like a month ago. It did it before that too. The truck had some old gas in it when I bought it so maybe its still going throught the system. idk.

I had aN IAC problem and mine stalled due to low idle. The truck would stall at traffic lights, but also while parking( going from forward to reverse ). You might try cleaning the IAC. I did and it helped, but I ended up replacing with an SMP unit from Summit. No problems since.
