Any guys running with toppers?
Hey guys. I plan on getting a topper for my beast, and was wondering what everybody runs on theirs. The plan is to get a color matched topper with a lumber/ladder rack that extends over the cab of the truck, with windoors, and that's pretty much it. The truck is the work beast, so I want it to be able to carry lumber and stuff too without running with the gate down.
If you guys are, post of the specs and how much it cost if you don't mind sharing that. You can even post a picture if you'd like!
I plan on going ARE or Leer, but honestly, I don't care. No sliding front window, as I got a solid back glass on the truck, so I wouldn't be able to access that anyway.

Mine is a Leer. I paid around $800 for it, but that was back in '98 or '99.
I like the cab high model; There is a decent amount of room inside, but the door entry is a bit tight.
I like the fact thatcan lock up the bed and everything stays dry.

theres what she used to look like when i had the cap on, i loved it. like said before everything stays dry and nice
. took it off cuz i rarely carry stuff i need to lock up around anymore. the previous owner put it on, it costs 1100 in 97. sliding windows ,color matched, had a ladder rack but i took it off.
I've got an ARE; bought it when I bought the truck new in 1996. I think it was $800 something back then. Ordered it to match the factory color, and it still looks like new; too bad the truck itself is ready for its second re-paint job. I'd suggest ordering it with the inside gel-coated if that's still an option. It keeps it looking nicer.
Bought my Leer in 98 for a little over a $1000 and I love it. Color-matched and lines up so well I've had people ask me if it was a factory option. Never had the ladder rack but I'm thinking of putting some type of carrier rack up there. Click the link or my photo icon for pictures.

Thanks guys. I went and priced one out at a local ARE dealer. $3098 for the options I wanted. That's a little pricey right now, so I may find a used one locally. There is a white one at a car lot down the road from me that I might go inquire about that's already got a rack on it. If I got that, I may just throw on a coat of black paint and be done.
Got a SnugTop on my 98. Not sure what cost was new as it was on the truck when I bought it in Jan. Current price according to SnugTop is around $2200.

I got my truck with an ARE already on it. I love it with the exception of it needs new struts. also I have to oil the window slides about every other week or it's a PITA to open or close them. all the work trucks run ARE's they hold up really well to the abuse we put them through.
