Default Is it the battery? Or something else?

Went out this morning to go to work and it turned over just like it normally does, and was just shy of actually starting and then it stopped dead......I pulled the key back and turned it again and all the lights on the dash went really dim like half power or something and it wont even turn over, there's a clicking coming from somewhere in the engine but no other noises, my first thought was maybe alternator and then i was thinking battery. My car is in the the shop right now getting a timing belt done so i cant even run and try to jump it or go to get a new battery or anything.....so until then does anyone know what it might be?

Well I realize you can't go any where right now but you could buy a cheap jump box (or some cables and have a friend come over)from walmart or somewhere because you can't diagnos the charging system without getting it running.Maybe it just the battery and you left something on by accident. It could also be the starter! You can try banging on the side of it and see if that does anything.

Check the battery cables, especially the ground... Make sure it doesnt have corrosion on the inside. Mine did something similar even to the point of cutting off at stoplights. Tighten the (ground) battery cable, been fine for the last 2 years.

Clicking is typically a dead battery. For some reason on a Dodge, you gotta charge the heck out of the battery when you jump it. I had to get a buddy to rev his truck for 5 min once to put enough juice in my battery to keep the truck lit the last time I replaced the battery.

Alright well I had my dad hook up jumper cables from his car and we let it charge for 10 min.s ...the clicking got faster and the lights are bright again but it still wont crank at all....my neighbor who's a mechanic came home and came over, said theres a good chance the battery is just completely shot, or it may be the starter, so I'm gonna start with getting a new battery tomorrow, if that doesnt work I'll go down a different route. Will keep ya posted, and thanks everybody.

Am happy to say that I got my car back, ran down to autozone and picked up a battery to try first after I tried jumping it, and it started right up!!! Good as new, guess it was just completely shot and the last time I tried to start it just killed it.....gotta love these dodges...just a battery

this doesnt sound right.....why would that have anything to do with the battery going bad?
