Default Air Conditioning Noise

Have some grinding sound and almost a dieseling sound on my AC compressor. I've read that can be the clutch. But I've also seen some posts where recharging the ac can also eliminate that. I'm the original owner of the 1998 ram and have never charged the AC. Anyone who has had this experience, what fixed it?

Also, for those who have done the work themselves, how hard is it to replace the clutch? Can some standard tools substitute for the ones Dodge calls for?

Thanks.

It looks like you should be able to replace the clutch but you can not! You need to get the whole compressor unfortunately.
