Now today it started agin but nothing i try will cut them off they will come on for a few mins and then go out its done it 4 times in the past hour so i finally just went out and unpluged the headlights. so does anyone know what might cause this or have the same problem??

Replace the headlight switch, not all that expensive. If it doesn't work you need the multi fuction switch on the steering column.
