i hate to piggy back but i'm having somewhat of a similar problem with my ram and i think it might be the engine ground wire. the previous owner just has it kinda hanging on the right side headers then attached to thre fire wall...is this right??

make sure your battery cables are tight and clean, the factory ones with the band style connections corrode and break. i had my negative work loose one day and it made the volt meter on the cluster jump up to 18 volts, and when i took it off it had burns on it from arcing. also make sure you wires going to the battery are in good shape and not blistered, i replaced the posative cable that goes to the fuse box because it was bumpy all the way down and it fixed her no start issue.
