Default Air bag suspension

I use my 1500 for several jobs in excess of a ton. It does fine and doesn't even settle too much. However, I want to be careful about wearing the leaf springs too much and am considering adding some air bags in the rear. Has anyone done this mod before? What were your results?

thanks,

u can help it out alot usin them on top of the leafs... they make bolt on bag kits for the rear helpers..... u can use jsut an air inlet just like filling a tire and you can air them up to how much u want to...... most bags now hold around 150-300 psi and 60 psi is enough to lift the rear of the truck up without leafs.....

I have a set of heavy duty air bags from Air Lift. Got them from Summit. Very easy to install and use. I tow a 16' trailer along with cars, trucks, tractor, etc. and it tows great. I highly recommend the air bags. Air Lift also makes a remote system that you can pump the bags up in your cab...even level it out from left to right. Plan on spending around $200 for the air bags and if you want the air compressor system then plan on spending about $100 for the basic system and $180 for the leveling system. PSI range is from 10 min. to 100 max. 10 psi gives a normal ride...the more air put in them, the stiffer the ride. But for a truck it is not bad.

I heard air bags used with the leaf springs are not a good idea...
what do you think?

I've got bags on my 2500. Helps me level out when the camper is loaded in the bed. Pretty easy to install, about a day. I think I went with the ones firestone makes. Unless you use them everyday, you don't need the compressor. The ride will stiffen a little, but its a truck.
