Default Gutted cat doesn't work well with after cat 02 sensor

I can tell that I am running lean. Is there a secret to not running lean when you gut your cat and have before and after cat 02 sensors? What if i disconnected the after cat sensor? Would that tell my PCM to throw more fuel at it?
