97 Ram 1500 eating 46re front pump seals
Hi guys,
I searched and couldn't find any issues similiar enough to mine to help so hereI go...
I havegot a 97 1500 pickup, 2wd with the 318 and the 46re tranny. Trucks been great since I got it say 6 years ago with 69K on it, only needed a waterpump 'til last March of '07 when the tranny was spewing ATF out the front pump seal. Truck had 108k on it when this happened, so I just figured get a new tranny from the dealer. Got hooked up and paid 1900 out the door for the tranny andI installed it myself one weekend. Now today the damn things smokin on my way home, look underneath and the same story as before, front pump seal appears to be wiped out, ATF leaking on to the crosspipe of the exhaust and smoking. Truck has now got 125.5K so I'm still under the 3/36 warranty, but I'm wondering if maybe i have a bent shaft, flexplate's tweaked and wearing the seal out? I sure as hell don't want to be pulling tranny's every year or so. Any ideas what this could be? Anyone? Thanks a lot in advance.

Pressure could be too high in the tranny or the end of the torque converter that slides into the pump may have a burr on it or have a groove wore into it, which would cause the seal to fail
Did you put a new torque in when the tranny took a dump last time??
