dodge tranny issue
hey guys, quick question hopefully somebody will know an answer. i have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with the 360. my problem is when i let it sit for a couple days, the trans doesn't want to shift right away. i've heard of the check ***** in the pressure and return lines at the trans and some seal to replace??? any help would be greatly appriciated. thanks
Fixed many of these. After assuring that your fluid level is correct. Hot idle in nuetral. It's possiblethat the check valve on the trans.cooler line needs replaced. Do replace, not clean. Ifcheck valvedoesn't hold, then all of the fluid in the cooler drains back to trans. pan. This forces the trans. to have to fill the cooler up before it can begin to create pressure to the hydraulic circuit of the trans. Another scenerio is sealing problems between input shaftsealing rings and front pump. If the check valve doesn't fix it, more than likely you will need to install/have installed a input shaft seal kit. It consists of: Pulling tranny. Pull front pump from tranny. Change seals on input shaft. Then reverse procedure. SORRY BOUT storybook. Hope this helps.
it needs a revised/updated valve in the transmission. Guy at the trans shop was just telling me what it did and why they revised it today and said to remove the check valve as the new valve eliminated it and was actually effective in preventing drainback. If you go that route also change the shift valve to the revised version so it will pump in park.
something like this happened to my truck, only it happened all of a sudden after parked over night. my cel came on and threw a code saying to check the automatic shift sensor. it's a little plug on the trans pan that connects to the computer and tells the transmission when to shift.
