Default Transmission open

Well if anyone wants to read my progress i will continue. Trans is out of truck and is totally apart on bench. Trans has 93000 miles on it and the reason for the teardown was no 2nd gear. Well the no 2nd gear was only the band anchor had fallen off. Upon the teardown found some things that neede attention. I think we all know the weakness of the 46re trans is the od unit that is bolted to the back of this 727 unit. I found a planitary nad reverse drum bad. Od piston support and drum also. But nothing to totally kill this trans cause i guess i caught it early enough to keep from major damage. I have never rebuilt a trans this far before but looks to be a fair challange. I am installing a jr. shiftkit to firm up the shifts. Also going to run Amsoil tran fluid to help with the od unit failures. Almost allmy info has come from this forum and other areas also. This is a great place to get hands on info. I will get back when i get on the road and give my results.

i'm not a transmission expert, but i read that there are a number of aftermarket replacement parts that fix OEM weaknesses. you might want to contact an expert, like APS or Fastman or Dr Evil and ask what they recommend you replace while its all apart. i doubt they will share all their secrets, but they might provide you with some direction/parts that will make sure you never have to rebuild it again.

pics.. we want pictures..

Thanks, I will try to contact some. I have been dealing with Transtar in my area and they have been quite helpful. Trans only had normal magnet debris on it. No big flakes or such. As for pics i will have to get it all togetther and try to post them.
