Default AC question

I have a '99 1500, 4x4, 318, auto. I noticed something today that I think is not working right. When I put my dash air on the third setting (which is mid dash and feet), the AC comes on. I thought the AC was only supposed to come on the first two settings that have the snowflake symbol. Also, I thought the third setting and all others past it were just supposed to be outside air circulation, no AC.

Anyone else have AC on this setting? If not, anyone have any ideas why I now have AC blowing on this setting?

Thanks.

I know the compressor cycles on and off when the defrost is on.

Ok, thanks guys. I guess I thought it just worked differently. All my other vehicles have an AC setting, then a seperate air setting for just circulating air, not cooling it. Guess that's not the case with the Ram.

Thanks.
