Default cam?

hey all,
i was looking around on jegs.com this morning and found several mopar purple cam and lifter kits for my 318. i was wondering if any one did a cam swap what cam they used lift and duration wise, what kind of performance increase did they get, did they upgrade the throttle body, and did they have to get a chip or would my stock computer becompatible?
thanks

I dont know if the purple cam is a stock computer compatable cam or not, best bet would be talk to mopar on that one.

I have a 218/224,270/276,513/513,112 cam in mine. I went from 15.0 to 14.4 using a ****ed up trans and 3.55 gears with an open rear and stock stall on street tires. I have a 4.10 trac lok that was waiting to go in along with a pair of slicks. That with a trans that shifts full throttle anda proper converter, Should bedeep in the 13s no problem.I was expecting that with a 100 shot I would be in to the 12s.

thanks for the reply,
sounds way faster than my truck will ever be lol.i was just throwing around the idea of putting in a cam and wondered what other peoples thoughts were, it seems like most people just throw on a fast man and roller rockers and are done with it. so i will do those 2 mods and then look for a cam. thanks again

So a cam would increase performance even on an EFI PCM controlled engine like the 5.9 magnum? Is it just something to upgrade to allow other, bolt on, modifications to work with more efficiency?

Default RE: cam?

When you start talking cams you need to understand what duration, lift, lobe separation, etc, does internally inside the engine. You also need to understand how much flow that cam will produce and how much you can get in and out of your engine. Then you'll know how to match parts to get the most benefit from the parts you buy, and what order to buy them in. If you start blindly slapping on thing like fixed Roller Rockers without understanding what they do and how they interact with a cam, you might be finding yourself either replacing them at a later date, or doing some deep research into how to get a cam ground to match your components, or how to do an emergency engine rebuild.
