Default CEL... gas problem?

ok so I searched the threads, asked around, I even asked my mechanic with no answers everyone seems baffled... si to the self proclaimed experts I go. it seems like when I getlow on fuel, Im talkin 1/8 of a tank your less, I throw a CEL. I drive around for a day or two with it on, then when I fill the tank the light is gone never to be seen again till I get low on fuel again. I thought maybe it was crap gas but it seems like it does this no matter what gas I use, Im thinkin maybe it has something to do with the ethanol being put in the fuel now, I dont know if that makes much sense but its all I could come up with. Now the strangest part is my girlfriends car does the same thing, she drives (and I know Im gettin flamed for this) a 2000 toyota celica. Any ideas/thoughts are welcome and appreciated. thanks again folks

By the way the truck is a 99 4x4 with the 360 it has about 92k and the only thing it really has done is the round air cleaner setup and an exhaust dump after the cat.

pull the code associated with the CEL and see what its saying. probably something with the evap system. i think it somehow monitors pressure. it could even have something to do with a leaking gas cap.

I have been working on pulling the code but my buddy with the code reader has dropped off the face of the planet and nobody will pull it without chargin me. the gas cap thing seems feasible though as we both fill up in jersey where they shoot ya the look of death if you so much as think about gettin out of your vehicle at thier pumps.

cycle the ignition key OFF*ON*OFF*ON*OFF*ON without cranking the engine. The fault code Pxxxx should be displayed in the odometer.
Most chain auto parts stores also have code readers and will usually check your vehicle for free.
