Default A.C. QUESTION

I apparently have a leak in the ac system, no surprise, this truck has been nothing but problems since i got it. can anyone tell me if the stuff they sell at advanced auto, i think its called red devil sealer really works or is it bad to put into your system. Im pretty sure its the evap core but its held a slight charge for about a month now. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put Red Angel in my system about a month ago and it seems to be working OK thus far. Haven't noticed a loss in charge or a lack of cooling, but it's only been a month.

A couple years back an AC shop told me I had a leak in the system and sucked it dry. Last summer i decided to fill up the system and see if it worked. I bought a couple cans of the R-134A with the supposed "seal fixer" from Walmart and filled up the system. Amazingly, the AC blew cold again and has worked ever since. So all I can say is spend the money on the sealer and hope it works, cus it's damn cheaper than fixing the entire system.

You can have a shop add the dye to trace your leak. I just had mine serviced, and there was one leak on the seals on the compressor, then later found a major leak on the Evaporator Core. That was a $700 to replace, they had to pull the dash to get to it. If they have to do that for you, have them check/replace the heater core.

Yes, my truck has been nothing but problems too. Tranny, bearings, ujoints, axle seals, door rot, steering, and catalytic converter all in LESS than a year.

edit: it was the evap core, not the condensor. my bad.

Be nice to know atleast what year it is! ALSAMP. And all cars/trucks have probs when they get old! I have a 99 chevy tracker that my wife uses and the evap core is bad. The cheapest I can find the part alone is for $600 !!!! It is a one piece heat/ac unit , can't just replace the evap core by itself.

And BTW , other than the tranny and the door rot (which is basically caused by someone not waxing and maintaining the truck properly before you got it) the axle seals (which went bad because someone left the ujoints be bad for too long) ,hub bearings , ujoints, etc... Are ALL DIY fixes with a few basic tools for removal so you can atleast take the part and have it replaced at a machine shop. Then do the reinstall yourself. Almost forgot! CC's go bad on all vehicles depending on conditions of maintenance and age of vehicle!
