You would have to take the computer from a 1996 as well. Two reasons: first, the 318 and 360 computers are not really interchangeable... they would work for each other, but not well, as they will have different programs. Second, in 1996 the switched to OBD II. So, basically, you'd have to rewire a lot of stuff on your 1994. You'd also have to swap out a few other parts besides the engine, as the 360 is externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced. Basically, you'd have to buy an entire donor truck, or at least from the front of the cab forward.

Since you'd be swapping the computer/wiring as well as the engine, a SCT tuner or whichever should work fine I'd think.

There are many other threads about this with even more info from more experienced guys, I'd do a search and read those as well as getting feedback in this thread here.

what do you figure youre power gains to be ??? will it be worth it in the long run ... i would think 1500 would let you rebuild youre 5.2 and add goodies and youd know what you have as apposed to a used motor .. i went with a hypertec programer dont know what the gains were but i feel it in the mid range

All you will need is the 5.9 shortblock with flywheel and harmoic ballecer. The 5.2 and 5.9 are almost exactly the same. everything is swapable inbetween them. The 5.2 comp will compensate for the extra fuel needed by the o2 sensor.Trust me I have done it!

true that i could rebuild my 318 but theres limits and because my truck is a 94 i couldent get the good programers. thats why im wondering if a motor out of a 96 would work, i did a search and found a guy that was taking out a 95 318 and putting ina 360 from a 99.

If you do it for the same years, 1994 5.2 to 1994 5.9, or 1995 5.9 maybe, it would be better. Keeping to OBD I.

If you go to OBD II (1996+), its a whole different ball park.

well im hoping to make atleast 300hp. mods would include headers, full exhaust with 40series, 52mm fast man, msd wires, b&w cap & rotor, performance torque converter, detroit locker and hypertech programmer. Edit forgot to add a mild cam and 180 T-stataswell.
